HP Pavilion Power 15-CB052TX Review

Latest Govt. Jobs 23:10:00 Reviews Edit
HP Pavilion Power 15-CB052TX review: The smooth operator
There's enough space in the laptop category for brands to have multiple offerings across price segments. There are budget-friendly laptops, mid-range laptops and the premium range of laptops targeted at a cross-section of customers. Hewlett Packard (HP) has always been a strong player across categories and has launched another laptop for the premium category. Priced at Rs 99,990, HP Pavilion Power 15-CB052TX is a powerful laptop which is targeted at "creative professionals" and gives a slight nudge to gamers as well. We used the laptop for a few days to gauge how it performs and here's our review:

Design

When it comes to a premium laptop the expectation is high in terms of design and looks. HP Pavilion Power 15 stands out slightly as it comes with a green-lit keyboard and has a green tinge on the logo as well. Beyond the green touch, this is just like any other HP laptop. The chassis feels good and the black finish of the laptop makes it a reasonably good-looking laptop.

It has 1 USB 3.1 Type C port, 3 USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, 1 HDMI and 1 headphone/microphone combo. For other connectivity purposes, it supports 1 multi-format SD media card reader, Intel 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WiF-i, Bluetooth 4.2 and Integrated 10/100/1000 GbELAN.

All these ports a located on both sides of the laptop neatly and the laptop weighs about 2.18Kg which is not that heavy for a 15.6-inch laptop.

Performance & Specifications

The HP Pavilion Power 15-CB052TX sports a 15.6-inch full HD IPS anti-glare WLED-backlit display. The display is promising and while it isn't the best in its class, it does impress you. It runs on Windows 10 Home Single Language 64-bit operating system and comes with Microsoft Office H&S (Lifetime version). It is powered by 7th Gen Intel core i7 processor clocked at 2.8GHz base frequency and is backed by Intel HM175 chipset.

On the memory front, the device boasts of an 8GB RAM with 1 TB HDD storage and 128GB SSD storage. This coupled with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card is a great addition for gamers. HP hasn't left any stone unturned when it comes to specifications and the benchmark tests prove that. The laptop scored 19,381 on PCMark and 895 on 3DMark.

For gaming, we indulged in a few games and the performance was a delight. There weren't any lags or stutters and the display is well-equipped to handle games. Even while watching videos, images were sharp and reproduced vibrant colours. The B&) speakers just add to the gaming and multimedia experience. The green backlit keyboard does make the laptop stand out from the crowd.

It's not as if the laptop doesn't have any flaws. The device does heat up after being put to use for long hours. For instance, if there are software updates then the device warmed up more than expected. The processor is powerful enough to handle multitasking and gaming with consummate ease. There weren't any glitches and this laptop is ideal for those looking to use it for multimedia content.

The Type C port and the USB 3.1 ports are a boon as they make it easier to connect your smartphone directly and transfer files much faster. Thank god for some companies not giving up on these.

The battery life is good, on one full charge, it should last you approximately for 13 hours of moderate usage. Even if you're planning to carry the laptop for meetings or presentations without a charger, the laptop's battery should hold you in good stead.

Verdict

HP has got a smooth and solid laptop with the Pavilion Power 15-CB052TX. It boasts of all the top notch specs and delivers impressive performance which makes it an tough competitor in the premium segment. If only the design was slightly more innovative and better, it would have been a winner all the way. Paying close to Rs 100,000 you expect the laptop to have a design that lives up to the price. There are similar offerings in the segment by the likes of Sony and Dell. In terms of performance, HP has a competent device on its hands and you won't go wrong with it. However, if looks of a laptop matter a lot to you then you could opt for other brands.
