NEW DELHI: Fitbit, the maker of popular fitness wearables, has announced that it will end support for Pebble smartwatch ecosystem in June this year. The company revealed that it planned to end the support by December last year, but it gave an extension of six months.
The Pebble devices and mobile apps will continue working even after June 30 but other services such as Pebble appstore, voice recognition features, SMS and email replies with iOS, Pebble forum, and the CloudPebble development tool will be stopped.
Announcing about the development, the company posted on its official blog post, "Pebble users are passionate about their smartwatches. With that in mind, Fitbit is extending its support of the Pebble smartwatch ecosystem for six more months, to June 30, 2018. During this time, we invite the Pebble community to explore how familiar highlights from the Pebble ecosystem are evolving on the Fitbit platform, from apps and clock faces to features and experiences. We're thrilled to see hundreds of former Pebble developers already building with the Fitbit SDK, and look forward to helping more Pebble devs flex their creativity on a wearables platform that can reach millions of Fitbit users worldwide."
Fitbit acquired Pebble in the year 2016 for $23 million.
Last week, Fitbit launched its first fitness tracker of the year 2018 in India. Dubbed Fitbit Iconic the device comes with a price tag of Rs 22,990 and it will be available in the market from February, 2018.
The Fitbit Iconic comes with a unibody watchcase made of nano-molding technology. The company claims that it is made of more durable materials that go through extensive testing than its other products.
