Fitness bands are commonplace now but they're not the only bits of tech you can use to keep track of your health.
ET's Karan Bajaj & Hitesh Raj Bhagat give you a quick rundown on some of the other wearable trackers you can use -
Fitness Bands
These are amongst the most commonly used now. Prices start as low as Rs 799 (for the Mi Band) and go as high as Rs 27 , 49 9 (Garmin Vivosmart HR+).
Most entry-level fitness bands let you keep track of how many steps you do, calories burned, distance covered along with the option of tracking you sleeping pattern. As you increase your budget, features like heart rate monitoring, colour touchscreens, advanced sports tracking modes and GPS become available.
Keep in mind that battery life of these fitness bands can vary between a couple of days to a year, so choose wisely. All the data needs to be synced with your smartphone/tablet using a companion app where you can easily view and understand your daily routine. You can even change straps of most of them as per your preference.
Smartwatches
Most smartwatches come with built-in fitness tracking sensors. For users who don't want to wear a wristwatch and separate fitness band, smartwatches are a great option. Price start as low as Rs 1,799 (Intex iRist) and can go up to Rs 84,000 (Gar min Fenix 3). Health tracking functions offered are similar to fitness bands with the added advantage of a touchscreen.
All the data from your smartwatch gets synced over to your smartphone over Bluetooth or WiFi. An added advantage with smart watches is that they gives you more options to interact with your smartphone - they will show you notifications as well as offer voice control for functions on your phone. The issue is that smartwatch battery life is typically not as good as fitness bands most smartwatches manage between 1 to 4 days on a full charge.
Earphones
Companies have come up with smart earphones that can help you keep track of your fitness and listen to music at the same time. Jabra has the Sports Pulse (Rs 8,599) and Bose has the SoundSport Pulse (Rs 17,500) headphones with built-in sensors and wireless connectivity.
These ear phones not only deliver good audio output but can also track heart rate, distance, steps, and calories during a workout. These are also splash proof to protect against any damage from sweat and offer a battery life of 4-5 hours on a single charge.
If you are looking for wireless Bluetooth earphones, consider the Samsung Gear Icon X (Rs 13,490) or the Jabra Elite Sport (Rs 40,140) both come with a carry case that doubles up as a charging dock.
