The most talked about telecom company Reliance Jio is on a never-ending spree of free offers ever-since it has made its entry. Not just offers but Jio has also been in a 'bunch' of controversies in regard with its speed, offers, connectivity, rates and much more. If we look at the number of cases filed by the telcos against each other, they might outnumber total cases filed in any telco war in the past.
A recent controversy betweenAirtel and Reliance Jio was about being the fastest 4G network in the country. According to Ookla’s ratings, Airtel claims to be the fastest 4G network across India. A series of statements flooded in this case with both parties claiming to be the faster one. However, after Jio’s plea on the issue, Airtel is recently asked to withdraw the fastest 4G network campaign by the concerned advertising authorities.
Ookla later clarified that the results were according to the tests done on Q4 of 2016. While Jio argues that this is unethical and the claims made are fake.
To get a clear picture of the whole case, we tried finding the out the test results from various sources. While we were checking on the speed test results from various providers, we checked the MySpeed portal controlled by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The website does not have a flashy interface like Ookla but the results are said to be more reliable because of government's inclusion.
The recent test results on the myspeed.trai.gov.in showed the top 3 operators with the fastest download speed, upload speed and the widest coverage. The fastest operators in terms of download speed are Jio, Idea and Airtel. Jio stands at the top spot with 15.04Mbps download speed, Idea at second with 8.05Mbps and Airtel at the third spot with 7.81Mbps download speed.
Idea tops the chart in terms of upload speed with an average speed of 4.25Mbps followed by Vodafone and Jio at 3.37Mbps and 3.35Mbps respectively.
