After announcing the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, the South Korean phone company is now reportedly working to relaunch the Galaxy Note 7. However, unlike the original Note 7 that came last year, this one will have a smaller battery life. The phone has reportedly received the Wi-Fi certification, which hints that the launch of the phone may not be too far.
Interestingly, along with the talk of the new Note 7, there are also rumours about the Galaxy S9, for which Samsung and Qualcomm and already working together. The Galaxy S8, in many regions, is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and it has been rumoured that the Galaxy S9 will use the Snapdragon 845.
It is not clear where, if at all, Samsung will launch the refurbished Note 7. Earlier in a statement to India Today Tech, the company had categorically denied that any such device would be launched in India. "The report on Samsung planning to sell refurbished Galaxy Note 7 smartphone in India is incorrect," a Samsung India spokesperson had said after some reports said that the company was planning to launch refurbished Note 7 in India.
Recently, Samsung had reportedly confirmed that it would launch refurbished Note 7 but had offered no details on how wide would be the availability and in what markets it would be launched.
Chances are that the refurbished Note 7 will not be much different from the original Note 7. Although it will reportedly come with a smaller battery. The Galaxy Note 7 was launched with a 3500 mAh battery last year. But after incidents of battery fires, it was recalled. Samsung recalled almost 4 million Galaxy Note 7. After a lot of consumers refused to give back the Note 7 that had reached them, the company even released a software update to disable them.
Now reports say that the new Samsung Note 7 will come with a smaller 3200mAh battery. The company is also ensuring that it runs rigorous checks on the battery so that the incidents that doomed the original Note 7 are not repeated. The refurbished Note 7 will reportedly run on Android Nougat.
It is also expected that the new Note 7 will be available at a cheaper price than the original one. Speculations suggest that the new Note 7 may possibly cost less than $850. The original Note 7 was initially launched at a market price of around $933 last year.
