Biggest smartphone announcements from MWC 2017
Even with the Mobile World Congress 2017 still underway in Barcelona, most major brands have made announcements for upcoming smartphones. ET gives you a quick look at some of the phones that will be arriving in the coming months.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium

The XZ premium is the flagship offering from Sony and is amongst the first smartphones to be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. It is also the first smartphone with a 4k HDR display (5.5-inch) and is IP68 certified for water and dust resistance.

Other specifications include 4GB RAM, 64GB storage and a 3,230mAh battery. Sony has integrated new cameras capable of 960fps slow motion video recording. Other features include a 13MP front camera, expandable storage, USB Type-C port and Android Nougat.

Gionee A1 & A1 Plus

Gionee announced a new A Series range at MWC. Both the A1 and A1 Plus run Android 7.0 and feature 4GB RAM, 64GB storage (expandable), dual SIM slots, fingerprint scanner and a metal unibody design. The A1 has a 5.5-inch full HD display, octa core Mediatek processor, 4,010mAh battery, 13MP rear camera and 16MP front camera (with selfie flash).

The A1 Plus has a 6-inch full HD display, has a Mediatek Helio P25 processor, 20MP front camera with selfie flash and is the company's first offering with a dual rear cameras (13MP + 5MP).

Nokia 3310

You read that right! The iconic Nokia feature phone is back. HMD Global, owners of the Nokia brand, have re-launched the Nokia 3310 at MWC while trying to retain the original's charm. There is a D-pad in the center, 2.4-inch colour display (320 x 240 pixels), 3.5mm audio jack, microUSB port and a 2MP rear camera.

The phone has 16GB storage (can be expanded up to 32GB) and a 1,200mAh battery. It comes in four different colours, runs the Symbian 30 operating system and will come with a new version of classic Snake game.

BlackBerry KeyOne

The swanky new BlackBerry is the first QWERTY phone from TCL, who took on the license to manufacture BlackBerry phones in December last year. It combines a 4.5-inch display (1620 x 1080 pixels) with the signature hardware keyboard. Like the previous Priv and Passport, the keyboard doubles up as a capacitive touchpad. The space bar now has an integrated fingerprint scanner too.

Hardware includes a Snapdragon 625, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage and a 3,505mAh battery.It also has a 12MP rear camera, 8MP front camera, expandable storage, USB Type-C and Android 7.1.

Nokia 3 and 5

Nokia also announced two mid-range Android smartphones at MWC 2017. Both phones have 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, 8MP front camera, expandable storage (up to 256GB), fingerprint scanner and run Android Nougat.

Nokia 3 is the cheaper offering with a 5-inch HD display, quad core Mediatek processor, 8MP rear camera, and a 2,650mAh battery. Nokia 5 has a 5.2-inch HD display, octa core Snapdragon 430 processor, 13MP primary camera and a 3,000mAh battery. Both these phones will also come preloaded with Google Assistant.

Moto G5 and G5 Plus

These are the successors to last year's Moto G4 but instead of plastic, these now have a metal body design. The Moto G5 has a 5-inch full HD display and is powered by a Snapdragon 430 processor, 2GB RAM, 1632GB storage and a 2,800mAh battery. It has a 13MP primary camera, 5MP front camera, fingerprint scanner and expandable storage.

In comparison, the Moto G5 Plus has a 5.2-inch full HD display, Snapdragon 625 processor, 34GB RAM, 3264GB storage, 3,000mAh battery, microSD slot for expansion, 12MP rear camera with dual autofocus pixels and a 5MP front facing camera.

Alcatel A5 LED 

Biggest smartphone announcements from MWC 2017Alcatel has launched a semi-modular phone called the A5. We say 'semi' because it lets you add accessories in a similar way to Moto's Z series.

The company showcased various snap-on covers: one with a battery pack, one with a speaker and kickstand and yet another case with integrated LEDs (configurable to show any colour or pattern for notifications).

The phone has a 5.2-inch HD display and runs Android 6.0. Hardware includes a 1.5Ghz octa-core Mediatek MT6753 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage and a 2,800mAh battery. Other specifications include expandable storage, 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera.

Huawei P10 and P10 Plus

Huawei continues its partnership with Leica on the P10 and P10 Plus. Both phones feature dual rear cameras ­ 20MP + 12MP with OIS, laser autofocus and dual LED flash.

The P10 has a 5.1-inch full HD display and 3,200mAh battery while the P10 Plus has a dual curved 5.5-inch 2k amoled display and 3,750mAh battery.

Common specifications on both devices include an octa core HiSilicon 960 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, fingerprint scanner and USB Type-C port. The P10 plus will also come in a 6GB RAM, 128GB storage variant.

LG G6

LG's new flagship for 2017 has a 5.7-inch 2k display (18:9 aspect) with surprisingly narrow bezels. The phone has IP68 certification for water resistance and ditches the modular design of the LG G5 in favor of a metal unibody.Inside is a Snapdragon 821 processor, 4GB RAM, 3264GB storage and a 3,300mAh battery.

It has dual 13MP rear camera setup with OIS, laser autofocus, HDR 10 and dual LED flash while the front has a 5MP selfie shooter. It comes with Android 7.0 and will be the first smartphone after Google's Pixel to get the Google Assistant feature.
