Now Google Officially Testing Android Instant Apps

We heard a while back about Google making Instant Apps a new functionality and the Google I/O in 2016. Now, Google is testing out the Instant Apps functionality, but this new feature is only available for a few apps right now.

Google Tests Android Instant Apps Feature

Google is testing out the Android Instant Apps feature right now on Google Play Store. Currently, Instant Apps is only available with four different apps on Google Play Store, which include BuzzFeed, Viki, Wish, and Periscope. These four apps are being tested publicly so that people can give feedback on the new Instant Apps functionality.
The SDK for Instant Apps is going to be made available for everyone later in 2017, but Google wants to see what the Android users think of this new feature right now. The four apps are available right now for the public to test out Instant Apps functionality, even though thousands of app developers wanted to get in on this new Instant Apps feature. Given that thousands of developers wanted to test and build the Instant Apps for Google Play, it is crazy to know that Google only chose four companies to test this functionality first. Google decided to limit the functionality to only a few apps for now because things might need to be changed once feedback is received.
This Instant Apps feature, if you did not know, is about deep linking. You can use a regular Android application and then cut it up into various modules. These modules can then run when the user is choosing the action in another app. This allows you to run the action through one app, without needing to download or install a separate application. There are a lot of benefits for Instant Apps since the user does not have to install apps separately if they want to use a certain module or action. Instant Apps can run on Android 4.1 or higher, but you need Google Play Services in order to run the Instant Apps. It is best to have Android 6.0 or Android 7.1 if you want the full functionality of Instant Apps without any hiccups, since bugs might occur in the Android 4.1 version due to it being such an old operating system.
Google is gearing up for Instant Apps by giving developers a guideline on how to implement Instant Apps functionality into their apps. There is also a list of benefits of putting Instant App functionality within your app, and a guide on basic rules and other important information out there as well that Google put together. Google is hoping that a lot of developers use this new Instant Apps functionality, but the developers have to update their software and then modularize it in order to get this new feature to run correctly. We do not know when Google will expand out the trial to other apps that have expressed interest. We also do not know specifics on when Google plans on releasing Instant Apps to everyone, but we will keep you updated on the progress when we hear more information.
