Google Assistant Now Available For Marshmallow & Nougat
Google just announced that the popular but very limited digital assistant, Google Assistant, is going to be on more Android devices very soon. Google is bringing the Google Assistant to both Android Marshmallow and Android Nougat. Android Marshmallow is Android version 6 and Android Nougat is version 7.
Google Assistant was first limited to just products put out by Google, with this new digital assistant only being out since the fall of 2016. Google is planning on expanding Google Assistant to more devices, with the newest operating systems on Android getting this assistant first. This is good news because when it comes to smartphones, Android was 85 percent of the total smartphone market last year. Research firm IDC found out this information when they did a report last year, with only Apple getting 15 percent of the global market.
If you have Android Marshmallow or Android Nougat on your Android device, you will be getting the Google Assistant this week. You must have your Android device in the United States to get this update, as it is for English speakers only at this point in time. After that, those who speak English in Canada, the U.K., and Australia will get the Google Assistant. Following those releases, Google Assistant will hit Germany for those speaking German. We do not know yet what additional languages will be supported, so stay tuned for updates on that. It is believed Google will add even more language support, although it could be weeks or a couple months down the road.
When it comes to Google Assistant, Google is hoping that more consumers will use this feature with it becoming more widely available. Amazon, Apple, and Google have all been trying to get their own digital assistant out there to as many people as possible. All three of these companies are competing as it is believed digital assistants will be an asset to the consumer and how they interact with devices in the coming years. Google wants the Google Assistant to be available to anyone at anytime and from anywhere. Making Google Assistant available for Android Nougat and Android Marshmallow users is one way to get more Android customers in the game.
Google will need to keep pushing out Google Assistant to more people because it is not guaranteed that Google Assistant will be the default on Android devices. Since Google opened up software and hardware, some companies have said that Amazon’s Alexa will be the digital assistant of choice.
Samsung has also announced plans to get into the digital assistant market, which could also cut into the Android market, which is not good either. The thing here is that all of these companies are now striving to make a digital assistant that people will want to use all the time, even washing machines and other appliances are using this new technology.
