Good news if you are into smartwatches because Google is about to update to Android Wear 2.0. This news comes as a relief to many people since Android Wear 2.0 was supposed to actually come out in the fall of 2016.
Android Wear 2.0 Coming in February 2017
If you have an Android smartwatch, you should know that Google is planning on releasing Android Wear 2.0 in the next few weeks. Android Wear 2.0 was actually supposed to come out in the fall of 2016, but a lot of issues ended up keeping it from being released. The issues had to deal with the fact that when Google released the developer preview of Android Wear 2.0, the feedback from those developers was pretty negative.
This led to Google to push back the release of Android Wear 2.0 in order to reassess and change things about Android Wear 2.0 that the developers were not happy about. There have been some more developer previews of Android Wear 2.0 since the initial bad feedback, and it seems that Android Wear 2.0 is finally ready for release. Google just notified all of the developers that Android Wear 2.0 will be coming out in the next few weeks. For the developers, this means they need to get all of their applications ready for the big release.
The developers got a notice that Google sent out which said Google wanted the developers to list the apps that they plan on using that would use the legacy APK. Android Wear 2.0 supports various standalone applications that do not even need the smartphone companion. Android Wear 2.0 also has Google Play Store built onto the watches itself, which is pretty cool as well. When it comes to the applications that do not have support for Android Wear 2.0, those will not be showing in the Watch Play Store when Android Wear 2.0 launches. This means that you will only see the apps that support Android Wear 2.0 in the Watch Play Store.
Google also sent out documents that walked the developers through the process of updating the apps so that it would support Android Wear 2.0. We still do not have a date yet for when Android Wear 2.0 will actually be released, as we know only that it will be released sometime in February 2017. We can kind of assume though it will be either the first or second week of the month.
Beyond Android Wear 2.0 being released in the coming few weeks, we also know there will be a couple new smartwatches being released as well. Google wants to release the new Android smartwatches around the same time that Android Wear 2.0 gets released. Google Watches should be coming very soon so keep your eyes open for those as well as we enter February.
The good news is that Android Wear 2.0 will be coming for both the new watches that will be released coming up and the watches that are already out. We do not know though how quick the older watches will get the Android Wear 2.0 update or which watches will be getting the update at what point in time.
The main thing is that it seems Google was able to fix the errors and the issues that the developers had with Android Wear 2.0 back in the fall. There have not been many issues that we have heard about in the past few months ever since Google fixed the initial feedback problems and redid Android Wear 2.0. Of course, as with all updates to Android, there is likely to be some glitches and issues when Android Wear 2.0 finally is released.
The developers seem happy with the changes though that Google has made to Android Wear 2.0 through the past few developer versions and previews of Android Wear 2.0. If we hear about when Android Wear 2.0 will actually be released we will let you know. For now though, it might be better just to keep your eyes and ears open because the note given to developers by Google make it seem like the first week of February we will see Android Wear 2.0 released, at least on some of the devices.
