Xiaomi will launch Pinecone chipset on February 28

Xiaomi was found working on a chipset for its mobile technology, after a Weibo page for Pinecone (alleged name of its in-house SoC) was registered clandestinely. Now, the company has released the date for exhibiting its mystical Pinecone which is February 28.

Post-launch of its chipset, Xiaomi will enter the existing league of chipset makers – Samsung, Apple and Huawei.

As of now, there aren’t much details on the profile of the chipset, however the manufacturing will make Xiaomi as the second Chinese company in the world to design in-house system-on-a chip.

Other details

Two years ago, Xiaomi released its Redmi 2A which came with a Leadcore chipset. After the launch, Xiaomi was reported to have extend his deal with the company in order to work on its SoC called Pinecone.

Without digressing, keep in mind that Pinecone is a direct translation from the Chinese term so we might see a Western adaptation of the name (or completely different name in that matter).

As per early speculations, Xiaomi Mi 5c was said to be the first phone with the SoC, but as per the latest leaks the phone might sport the Snapdragon 625 instead.

For now there is no hint as to which phone will have run on the first SoC.
