World’s first 10-core smartphone to be shown off at the MWC

Vernee is not a manufacturer that’s known to all. However, it soon might be, going by a new announcement made by the company. The Chinese manufacturer will apparently launch the world’s first 10-core Mediatek Helio X30 powered handset at the MWC later this month.

It was always expected that a Chinese manufacturer will be the first to push the envelope when it comes to CPU and this could set the trend going forward into 2017 as we are expected to see a handful of attractive devices in the coming months.

Known as the Apollo 2, the handset will probably remain limited to the Chinese markets, although we won’t be surprised if it starts making its way to unofficial retail channels in India subsequently. Not much else is known about the Vernee Apollo 2, but one expects the smartphone to be attractively priced when it breaks cover in the Chinese markets later this month or in early March.

Speaking about the Mediatek Helio X30, it features a 10nm CPU architecture, making it quite efficient. The CPU uses a 4+4+2 combination, with the first four featuring ARM Cortex-A73 cores (2.8 GHz), while the next four come with Cortex-A53 cores with a clock speed of 2.2 GHz. The last two low-power CPU cores are based on Cortex-A35 and have a clock speed of 2.0 GHz. The chipset uses a PowerVR 7XT GPU to run whatever you throw at it.

If the predecessor is anything to go by, the Vernee Apollo 2 will definitely impress the masses. However, the fact that it won't be widely available is somewhat disappointing.
