WhatsApp's take on Snapchat stories is now live for all users globally

WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum had unveiled the messaging platform's revamped new status feature earlier, via a blog post. The revamp overhauled the generic text status into something like Snapchat stories. The feature is now live for users on Apple, Android and Windows Phone devices

Starting today, Users can now use images and videos as their status, which will disappear after 24 hours. Users will be in full control over who can see their status, there are privacy settings available that lets users choose between My contacts, My contacts except or Only share with certain people from the contact list. As reported earlier, the interface is very similar to Instagram stories. To view other people's updates, you visit the new Status tab placed in between chats and calls.

Once there, you can post a new status or view other people's statuses by tapping on their names. You can also comment on the status by either upward from the bottom or by tapping reply. You’re also shown a carousel of statuses that auto-rotates to show you all the posts from your contact list.

There is also a slick new tutorial that can teach you the ropes and you can access it in the recent updates tab, by tapping WhatsApp. The update has also revamped the interface, by adding new animations and reorganising the main tab headers as Chats, Status and calls, a new video button has also been added to the left of the tab menu, the floating button for creating new conversations doesn’t appear to have made the cut though.
