WhatsApp rolls out 2-step verification for it’s billion plus users

WhatsApp has been slowly and steadily releasing two-step verification to many of it’s users across the globe. Now the feature has moved out of testing phase and is rolling out to all of WhatsApp’s 1.2 billion customers. 

The feature is available not only on the iOS and Android version of WhatsApp but also on the Windows Phone version. 

What is two-step verification? 
Two-step verification is an optional feature that adds more security to your account. With the feature enabled, any attempt to verify your phone number on WhatsApp must be accompanied by a six-digit passcode of your choosing. 

How to enable two-step verification? 
To enable two-step verification, you need to open the WhatsApp application, go to Settings> Account> Two-step verification and then click on Enable. 

Upon enabling this feature, you can also optionally enter your email address. This email address will allow WhatsApp to send you a link via email to disable two-step verification in case you ever forget the six-digit passcode you set, and also to help safeguard your account. 

In order to make sure you don’t forget your passcode, WhatsApp will keep asking you for your passcode periodically. This feature cannot be turned off without turning off two-step verification entirely.
