Sony planning to launch smartphone code-named 'Pikachu', to feature MediaTek Helio P20 chipset

Sony’s Pikachu smartphone is expected to feature a 5-inch HD display, and will run on an oct-core MediaTek MT6757 Helio P20 chipset clocked at 2.3 Ghz, according to a report by GSMArena. The phone is stacked with 2.2GB of RAM and as per the listing 22GB of storage, which indicates the available storage at user end. That means the device will possibly come with 32GB of on-board storage and 3GB of RAM. 

The phone’s optics speaks volume, as Pikachu will sport a 21-megapixel primary camera, with AF, PDAF, flash, HDR and touch to focus feature. While the secondary camera has a 7-megapixel unit. 

The sensors on the phone include accelerometer, Bluetooth, compass, GPS, light sensor, NFC and a proximity sensor. Also, the device will run the new Android 7.0 Nougat operating system, says the report. 

Sony has been in news for quite some time with its line-up of four smartphones that are said to take the stage at MWC 2017. 

Recently, Sony XA (2017) was spotted online and is expected to come with USB Type-C connectivity but retains the standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Earlier, some renders of the claimed smartphone had also leaked online. Looking at the renders, it seems that the phone will sport a 5-inch display and with thinner bezels. But, according to some leaked video the smartphone may not have ‘thin’ bezels. 

Another device is Sony Xperia Z5, which the company is expected to unveil behind closed doors at MWC 2017. The leaks have also revealed that, a device codenamed – ‘Yoshino’ will be the most premium of the lot featuring a 5.5-inch 4K display, Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 chipset, 4GB or 6GB of RAM and will use Sony IMX400 (which is the newest sensor for the smartphone cameras). 

As of now, the devices that are lined up for a plausible launch at MWC are codenamed as- BlancBright, Keyaki, Hinoki and Mineo.
