Rocking a Moto Z Play? Update to Android 7.0 Nougat now!

Motorola has been on a roll as of late when it comes to updating it’s smartphones to Android 7.0 Nougat. After the Moto G4/G4 Plus and the Moto Z, the company has now started the rollout of the Nougat update for the Moto Z Play

Customers in India and Brazil have started receiving the update, with a US rollout to follow soon. It is expected that the update will be made global very soon.

When Lenovo acquired Motorola, there were fears that this would spell an end to the lightning fast android updates Moto users had been enjoying under Google’s ownership. However, the fears have proved unfounded with relatively quick updates.

The update brings with it Nougat’s split-screen multi-tasking, customisable quick settings, an improved Google keyboard, improved data saver and battery features as well as enhanced notifications for the Moto Z Play.

Moreover, Android Nougat also comes with a battery savings feature feature called ‘Doze on the go’ which enables Marshmallow’s Doze mode even when your device is in a pocket.

Users in India can expect a notification on their smartphone informing them of the update. If you haven’t got a notification, you can head over to Settings > About Phone > System updates to check for updates manually.

The update also brings with it several Moto specific features such as a new action called Swipe to shrink the screen, a setting to lock/unlock the screen by touching the fingerprint sensor and a new landscape view for when a Moto Mod is connected to your phone.

The Moto Z Play in detail
The younger brother of Motorola’s flagship Moto Z, the Moto Z Play comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, the Snapdragon 635 processor, 3GB of RAM, a 16MP rear camera with laser autofocus and the largest battery Motorola has ever put in any of its smartphones.

Motorola claims the Moto Z play can give upto 45 hours of battery life and also supports Motorola’s TurboCharging technology.

The front camera is the same as the one on the Moto Z, with a 5MP sensor

Moto Mods
The distinguishing feature of the Moto Z and Moto Z Play are the ‘Moto Mods’: snap-on accessories that can be attached to the smartphone in order to increase its functionality.

The Moto Mods can be simply attached to the back of the device through magnets. Five Moto Mods are available as of now - A mod by JBL to add powerful speakers, a mini projector by Pico, a camera add on by Hasslebad, Style shells by Motorola and a power pack by Incipio which extends the device’s battery life.
