WhatsApp has announced and introduced its new ‘Status’ feature worldwide which was earlier available in Europe. The new status feature is available on iPhone , Android and Windows devices. WhatsApp Status feature is the Facebook-owned company’s new way to engage people on its instant messaging platform which looks like a clone of Snapchat Stories .
"We are excited to announce that, coinciding withWhatsApp 's 8th birthday on February 24, we are reinventing the status feature," wrote Jan Koum , CEO and co-founder of WhatsApp, in a blog post earlier this week.
With this rollout, users can now share photos and videos with friends and contacts on the app. The company reiterates that the new status updates will be end-to-end encrypted.
"Starting today, iPhone, Android and Windows users can send photos, videos and GIFs through Status to share special moments throughout their day with friends and family," said WhatsApp in a press statement.
The rollout also brings in new Camera tab on the left next to chat. This makes it easy to shoot photos or even videos and use them in your status updates.
Under the Status Privacy, you can decide on who can see your status updates and offers three options –‘My contacts, My contacts except, and Only share with…’
