Last week Mukesh Ambani announced the new Jio Prime offer and said that that Jio services won't be free after March 31. The company also mentioned that those subscribing to Jio Prime Membership will get access to special Jio data plan which will cost Rs 303 per month for 1 year and will give unlimited data with a cap of 1GB per day for full 4G speed data. Calls and messages, as usual will be free. The Prime membership will cost Rs 99 per year. Now, we are of hearing of some more Jio plans that will be offered to Prime members.
A report by Moneycontrol, which is owned by Reliance, reveals that Jio will also offer long-term plans to its users. Quoting a note by brokerage firm CLSA, the report states that Jio is planning to launch two new monthly tariff plans at Rs 149 and Rs 499 that offer 2GB and 60 GB data along with free voice calls.
"As per our discussion with channel partners and retailers, Reliance Jio has revealed more tariff plans under the Jio Prime Programme that requires one-time membership charge of Rs 99 to be paid before March 31, 2017," notes the CLSA report. "For Jio Prime members, two more monthly plans will be available other than the Rs 303 plan announced last week. The cheapest monthly plan is Rs 149 which offers free domestic voice and 2GB data without any daily limits. Another plan offers 60 GB (2GB daily data allowance) and unlimited voice for Rs 499."
Reliance will also offer long-term plans to its users ranging from Rs 999 to Rs 9,999. The Rs 999 plan is valid for 60 days and will offer 60GB of data without any daily limits. Similarly, Rs 1999 will offer 125GB data benefit and validity of 90 days. The pack with 180 days validity will cost Rs 4,999 and offer 350GB data whereas the costliest plan of Rs 9999 will come with a validity of 360 days and offer 750GB data benefits.
These are incredible plans, or at least they seem. we will have to see if there is any fine print here or not but they sure look good on paper. In fact, these wireless plans are better than many broadband plans that companies offer in India.
Reportedly, subscribers of all these plans will have access to Jio apps but the company has capped the free voice calling to up to the first 1,000 minutes per month, after which only calls within the Jio network will be free. The CLSA notes also states that the "Jio Prime membership and its benefits could be cancelled unless a minimum recharge of Rs 149 is made every month."
