New Xiaomi Mi 5c with company's in-house SoC Surge S1 announced, check full details

Xiaomi is one name that has become permanent in the newsmakers list. The company has again made it to the headlines after launching the Mi 5c smartphone in China. Unlike any other Xiaomi smartphone, this one is special for the company as well as the fans. The Mi 5c comes with Xiaomi’s first in-house processor, named as the Surge S1

The Mi 5c is the successor of the Mi 4c, sports a metal unibody and features a 5.5-inch full HD (1920 x 1080p) resolution display. The display has a curved glass on top and has a pixel density of 428ppi. For optics, Xiaomi Mi 5c has a 12MP rear camera with 1.25-micron pixels, an f/2.2 aperture, and LED flash and an 8MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture, and 27mm wide-angle lens. 

The smartphone runs on Xiaomi’s very first octa-core Surge S1 SoC clocked at 2.2Ghz. It is paired with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of inbuilt storage. On the software front, it runs on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) based on MIUI 8, but the company claims it will receive Android 7.1 (Nougat) by March. 

For connectivity, it supports dual-SIM (Nano + Nano) cards, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac dual-band, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, USB Type-C, a 3.5mm audio jack, and FM radio. It comes with a 2860mAh battery with fast charging support. The Mi 5c also has a fingerprint sensor baked inside the home button on the front. It measures 144.38x69.68x7.09 mm, and weighs 135 grams.

The Xiaomi Mi 5c is priced at CNY 1,499 (approx Rs. 14,500). It will be coming to China on March 3 in Rose Gold, Gold, and Black colour variants.
