Congress may be politically opposed to the Centre's demonetisation, but 100 days after the November 8 move, the state is all smiles over the increase in transactions on the country's first mobile governance app, Mobile One.“In two months, we have seen an increase of about 32% in the average daily usage of the Mobile webapp channel and 46% increase in the interactive voice response (IVR) usage,“ Rahul Bharadwaj, project manager (Mobile Governance) from the state's Centre for e-Governance, told ET, quoting figures up to mid-January .
“Currently, we are getting about three lakh calls a day on the IVRS. We have also seen a significant increase in the number of payments made using credit/debit cards and mobile wallets (160% and 350% increase respectively“ he said.
e-Governance CEO Darpan Jain sees the situation as an opportunity to push the mobile governance platform - one of CM Siddaramaiah's pet initiatives - to greater heights by increasing the number of facilities offered on it and simplifying the user interface.
“We need to increase the rural footprint and offer more services that they need, if we are to make use of the digital push that demonetisation has given,“ he said.
Mobile One (M-One) currently brings over 4,000 services including government and private ones onto one integrated platform that can be accessed as an app on smartphones, a web portal or through SMS and IVRS.
It was launched in December 2014 by President Pranab Mukherjee and has been going from strength to strength after it got the Gold in the mgovernance awards at the World Government Summit in Dubai in February 2016.
The platform offers services including payment of utility bills, income and property tax, agriculture planning and weather updates.
