How to Configure and Rearrange Windows 10’s Action Center Shortcuts

The Quick actions buttons at the bottom of the Action Center of are a great way to quickly connect to your VPN, take down a note, or launch the Settings app with a single click. But, did you know you can also customize these buttons to your specific tastes?
Here’s how to configure the Quick actions buttons to best fit your personal needs. To access the Quick actions buttons, click the Action Center icon on the far right side of the Taskbar. On our PC, the Quick Actions buttons are currently arranged as shown below. We’ll rearrange these and remove a few that we don’t use.

Open the Settings App

To configure the Quick actions buttons on the Action Center, open the Settings app. To do this, you can either open the Action Center and click on the “All Settings” button…

…or you can open the Start menu and click the “Settings” button on the lower-left side of the menu.

On the Settings dialog box, click the “System” icon.

Click “Notifications & Actions” in the list of options on the left.

Configure the Quick Actions Buttons

The current layout of the Quick actions buttons is shown on the right. To rearrange the buttons, simply drag and drop them in the order you want. The four buttons on the top row make up the hotbar and are available even when you collapse the buttons, which we will discuss later in this article.

Now that we’ve rearranged some of the buttons, we want to remove a few. So, we click the “Add or remove quick actions” link under the button layout.

A complete list of all the available Quick actions buttons displays, including settings like Location, the option to turn on Tablet Mode, or connect to an available Bluetooth device in the area. To turn off a Quick action button, click the slider button to the right of the button name so it turns white and reads Off.
The changes you make are effective immediately, so you do not need to sign out or reboot your PC.

To close the Settings dialog box, click on the “X” in the upper-right corner.

Expand and Collapse the Quick Actions Buttons

The Quick actions buttons at the bottom of the Action Center reflect the changes you made in the settings. Any buttons you don’t select for the hotbar (the top row) will automatically be shoved down to the full menu, which can be expanded in the action center by clicking the “Expand” link.

The rest of the options which weren’t already hotswapped to the first row display. You can click “Collapse” to only show the hotbar again.
