Android 7.1.2 update bringing new notifications feature to the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P

Google introduced an innovative feature with last year’s Pixel phones, allowing customers to show notifications by simply swiping down on the fingerprint scanner. This nifty software feature is now making its way to the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P in the form of the Android 7.1.2 update. This is still in beta, however, so the commercial rollout could be some distance away. 

Along with this feature, the update should also introduce an array of bug fixes, patches and performance enhancements. To find this particular feature on your Nexus 5X or your Nexus 6P, you will need to be subscribed to Google’s beta channel updates. 

There’s no word on when the update will actually hit regular devices, but since it’s already in the beta stage, we don’t think it will take too long. Keeping this in mind, the users can be assured that even if they don't have access to the Nougat beta updates, this feature will subsequently make its way to their phones. The feature can be enabled (assuming you have the update), by heading over to Settings and navigating to Moves. 

One can argue that Google didn’t have to wait this long to enable this feature on devices. But given the nature of Android updates, and perhaps the need to make the Pixels stand out from the crowd, Google had no option but to keep this an exclusive for a few months. 

It must be noted that not all Beta features are promised to make the final cut. So be sure to reserve your excitement if you own the Nexus 5X or the Nexus 6P.
