How to Use Reading View in Microsoft Edge

This tutorial is only intended for users running the Microsoft Edge browser on Windows desktop operating systems.

Most websites are inundated with various types of content, such as advertisements and video clips. While these components each serve a purpose, they can also distract you from what you may actually be interested in on the page. A good example would be reading a news article where your intended focus is solely on the text itself. In cases such as this, you may look upon these secondary items as an unwanted diversion.

For times like these the Reading View feature in Microsoft Edge acts as your own personal horse blinders, stripping unwanted distractions and rendering just what you want to see. When active, the content which you are reading immediately becomes the focal point in the browser.

To enter Reading View click on the menu button that looks like an open book, located in Edge's main toolbar and highlighted in blue whenever this mode is available. To exit Reading View and return to your standard browsing session, simply click on the button a second time.

It should be noted that Reading View will only work as expected on websites that support the feature.

Reading View Settings

Edge allows you to tweak some of the visuals associated with Reading View in an effort to provide a better experience. Click on the More menu button, represented by three horizontally-placed dots and located in the upper right-hand corner of your browser window. When the drop-down menu appears, select the option labeled Settings. Edge's Settings interface should now be displayed, overlaying your browser window. Scroll down until you see the section labeled Reading, which contains the following two options accompanied by drop-down menus.

• Reading view style: Lets you choose from different background and text color themes including Default, Light, Medium, and Dark.
• Reading view font size: Lets you specify the size of the text shown in Reading View by choosing from one of the following settings: Small, Medium, Large, and Extra Large.
