NEW ELHI: Cloud computing platform DigitalOcean has launched its new data centre in Bengaluru. Headquartered in New York City, DigitalOcean offers on demand cloud computing resources and claims over 700,000 registered customers across the globe.
DigitalOcean will continue to offer a single pricing plan across all of its regions worldwide, including Bengaluru. This includes SSD enabled cloud servers starting at $5 USD per month, as well as identical pricing for all additional services like bandwidth, snapshots and more.
The company announced their plans to open a data centre in India in February, with an initial investment of $5 million. As per Netcraft, a cloud infrastructure research firm, DigitalOcean is the second largest hosting company in the world.
The Droplet - the company's branded term for a cloud server - is a powerful compute resource that comes packaged with memory, storage and bandwidth. Pricing begins at $5 per month and billing is calculated on an hourly basis, guaranteeing that companies only pay for infrastructure resources that are actually being used. The flexibility to quickly spin up servers via the company's simple control panel or API is part of the special DigitalOcean experience.
Currently valued at $2.2 billion, India's data centre infrastructure market is expected to touch $4.5 billion by 2018. India is poised to be the second-largest market for data centres in Asia-Pacific by 2020 and the investments expected to reach $7 billion, according to a report by Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI).
"India can grow to be an infrastructure hub attracting $7 billion, or 4.5% of the world's investments by 2020 and there is an urgent need to create appropriate incentives to attract the investments and enable better connectivity, data speed and create more jobs in the country," the report said.
