"With just about a week to go before the official launch, it's time to figure out what Xiaomi's Mi Max would bring"
Popular Chinese brand Xiaomi will reportedly add another device to its smartphone portfolio at an event in China on May 10th. Dubbed as the Mi Max, the smartphone has seen its share of leaks and rumours and is expected to be accompanied by the launch of the Mi Band 2, the successor to Xiaomi’s popular Mi Band fitness tracker. With so many speculations and high expectations, we’ve gathered all the juice from the rumour mills to bring you everything that the company might offer in its latest smartphone. Let's begin.
Design
If you’re expecting a radical change in the physical looks of the device from the Mi 5, you may be up for some disappointment. Based on preliminary leaks, the Mi Max is expected to feature a similar design language as that of the Mi 5, which in turn, borrowed design cues from the Mi Note. That said, the design on the Mi 5 was the company’s most polished effort so far. A leaked image revealed the back of the device, which had a striking resemblance to the Mi 5, both in terms of the curved design and the camera placement.
Display
As the name suggests, Xiaomi’s Mi Max will purportedly be a phablet with a massive 6.4-inch display. The company is expected to opt for a full HD resolution for the display of the phone. This means that the pixel density of the screen might be a respectable 344ppi.
Processor
Under the hood, the Mi Max is expected to be powered by a hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor. The processor is 64-bit capable and supports high Cat 7 speeds. For gamers, the Adreno 510 GPU should offer enough firepower to render high-quality graphics without many hiccups.
Memory
The Mi Max will reportedly come with just 16GB of internal storage along with 2GB of RAM. But just like the Redmi Note 3(review), we might see another variant of the device with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage.
Battery
Excellent battery life has always been one of the USPs of Xiaomi’s smartphones, and we expect the Mi Max to be no different. The smartphone will reportedly feature a mammoth 4,500mAh battery. Compare that to the 3,000mAh battery on the Samsung Galaxy S7 , the Mi Max already has a head start in this department. With such a large battery, fast charging support should also be there.
Software
On the software side of things, the Mi Max is expected to run the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. What’s interesting though is that it might be the first device to run the next iteration of the company’s custom ROM, dubbed MIUI 8. Xiaomi has already teased certain aspects of the UI by revealing short videos about the notification shade and the caller app found in MIUI 8.
Cameras
According to leaks, the smartphone is expected to come with a 16MP rear camera. There’s no information whether it would feature optical image stabilisation or not. The front of the device is expected to get a 5MP snapper.
Availability And Pricing
The Xiaomi Mi Max would be unveiled in the company’s homeland on May 10th. The device might hit the Indian market in the weeks following the launch. Unfortunately, not much is known about the price of the device, though we expect it to be somewhere between that of the Redmi Note 3 and the Mi 5. With not many days left for the launch to take place, we have our fingers crossed to hear some major announcements from Xiaomi.
