Oily Hair Care Tips

You know what causes oiliness of hair? Well there are plenty of reasons. It can be because you are born with oily scalp or it may be due to stress, abnormal diet consisting of more oily food or less of water intake, intake of hormonal pills for post or preponement of your periods, due to intake of steroids or painkillers or even birth control pills.

I have extremely oily hair that i try to control by regular shampooing and by using these hair tips foroily hair care. I use them and they work well for me.

Tip 1:

Essentially your diet should contain fruits and veggies in good quantity and 8-10 glasses of water each day.

Tip 2:

Regular shampooing is essential, even if not regular shampooing then at least 3 times a week. But at the same time you have to be careful that the shampoo isn’t very harsh, otherwise it will strip away the natural oils which is definitely not good. Use a Ph balanced shampoo which is mild and especially formulated for oily hair.

Tip 3:

You do not need to use any types of oil on your hair if your hair is already oily. The best part, the oil secreted from your hair is actually good for your hair as it’s natural and secreted from your body only. You just need to control it. Even then once a while a hot oil treatment of pure almond oil (since it’s non sticky and a good nourishment for hair) mixed with either non sticky olive oil or even vegetable oil is good. Mix, warm over indirect heat, put 1 teaspoon to 3 teaspoons of lemon juice and use on hair. Keep for 15 minutes covered with a warm water soaked towel and then rinse off.

Tip 4:

Rinsing of oily hair can be done with 2-3 bsp of apple cider vinegar or white vinegar into one mug of water.

Tip 5:

Beer rinse is also good. Don’t drink it just pour over your hair. Its great for any type of hair.

Tip 6: Immediate remedy

If you are running short of time and do not want to go in for full length wet shampoo try a dry shampoo. put some talc on your scalp and dust it off. But there is something else too that you can use instead of talc. You can use corn starch, yes the same Wakefield cornstarch that is used in soups or for making pakoras! Use it  the same way as you use talcum powder. Do not forget to wash off your hair (though corn starch will not harm your scalp like talcum powder can, it is still advisable to  wash it off) after coming back.

Tip 7:

You can use a natural conditioner rather than going for other types of conditioners like available in the market. Make a conditioner using fresh aloe vera gel ( or any good brand packaged form) and mix with it 1tbsp of apple cider vinegar or 2 tbsp of lemon juice or both one one tbsp each. This is really good for all hair types. The result is heavily conditioned hair that isn’t oily at all!

Tip 8:

You can use a good brand of henna for controlling oiliness also. Applying henna keeps hair drier than normal.(Do not use eggs or lemon juice or anything as such when you want to condition your hair.)

Tip 9:

Do not brush hair too much. The bristles carry oils from one end to the other . leading to more oiliness.

Tip 10:

If you work out , then do not let the sweat stand on your hair . Shampoo after without fail!

Tip 11:

Some people have the habit of tying their hair in pony tail all the time . The more stress you give to roots of hair , the more oily your hair will be since it’s stimulates the glands at the roots. Keep your hair loose sometimes to avoid this.

Tip 12:

You can grab a bottle of witch hazel oil, then mix like 4 drops of it to about 2 tbsp of plain water. Dab it on a cotton ball and apply on scalp. This helps to control oiliness of hair.
